Transcript (en): «We have something to tell you. We never imagined that our first meeting with Sergio Femar would grow into our very first artistic collaboration—or that one of the pieces would end up becoming part of the DC Art Foundation’s collection in Miami.

It all started when Sergio reached out to us. After a quick call, we decided to meet in person. He came to the workshop, saw the space, the materials, the process. From that moment, we realized we shared something deeper: Galicia, the sea, memory, identity.

So, who is Sergio Femar? He’s a Galician visual artist, born in 1990, who has shown his work in cities like Berlin, Paris, and Toronto. Today, he’s represented by the DC Art Foundation in Miami. His work moves between painting, sculpture, and installation—always guided by the same vision: exploring how matter, through transformation, finds meaning. That way of seeing things fit perfectly with ours.

After that first encounter, we got to work—each from our side. Sergio developed the concept further, building on what we had shared, while we focused on the technical aspects: renderings, scale models, materials, finishes. We wanted to capture the essence of the sea, the land, and identity. And we found it in a sail: the Relinga.

The relinga is a type of sail used on dornas, the traditional fishing boats of the Rías Baixas. But beyond its shape, the idea took us further. In essence, Relinga isn’t just a piece—it’s a sail that doesn’t sail, but still carries the memory of where we come from. It’s a bridge between art and craft, past and present, matter and memory—and it marks a new beginning for Frouma.
